The Moroccan international, who has been with Al-Sadd since 2015, was replaced by substitute Ali Al-Harbi in the second half of the game and will now be out of action until at least the end of the year.

Khedira's injury is a major blow to Al-Sadd as he was one of their most consistent performers this season.

He had scored three goals and provided four assists in 16 appearances in all competitions.

His absence could also affect the team's chances of winning the Saudi Professional League title, which they currently lead by two points from Al-Nassr.

However, coach Abdulhadi Al-Attiyah remains optimistic that his side can still compete for the championship despite the setback.

"We're going to miss him, but we have other players who can step up," said Attiyah.

"We'll try our best to find solutions and keep fighting."

Meanwhile, Al-Nassr manager Herve Renard has expressed his disappointment at losing Khedira to injury.
